On March 16 2020 The Finnish Government announced that there is a state of emergency in the country as a result of the coronavirus outbreak. Here we publish information regarding the changes in our services and operations due to the outbreak.
As a consequence of the state of emergency, schools, libraries, Medis, public baths and other sport facilities, youth recreational facilities and day centres for elderly people closed 18.03.2020 and will remain so until 13.5.2020. In addition, visits to retirements homes is prohibited as of 18.03.2020.
The aim of these safety measures is to protect the city's most vulnerable and to continue to offer core services.

Culture and leisure
The city library closed 18.03.2020 and all events there have been cancelled until further notice.
The library's book drop is open 24/7 for returns. The city library also increases its customers' access to e-media: until 30.04.2020 all library card holders can borrow two e-books (text and audio) as well as three movies per week. Read more about the library's e-services here (in Swedish).
The library continues to offer their services, but in a limited form. The city library can be reached 10-16 on weekdays at 018 531 411, firstname.lastname@example.org and on Facebook.
While the building remains closed it is still possible to renew borrowed books that are expiring, get help with e-media and PIN codes as well as collecting reserved books (after an agreement with a librarian). In order to prevent spreading the virus, reserved books are left in paper bags on the loading bridge in the garage at specific times.
Mariebad and all other sport facilities closed 18.03.2020 and will remain shut until 13.5.2020.
Youth centres Uncan and Stallet are closed 18.3-13.5.
18.03.2020: Seniorpunkten is closed until further notice. Day activity centre Klippan is closed until further notice as well.
As a result of the state of emergency, visits are prohibited to Odalgården and Trobergshemmet. Staff will contact relatives in case the client's health situation changes in any way.
Home care services continue their home visits as usual until otherwise stated.
The senior culture programme offered at Odalgården and Trobergshemmet is on hiatus until further notice.
Day care and group family day care facilities in Mariehamn are open as usual during the state of emergency in order to secure day care for the children of people who work in sectors critical to the function of society. The government nevertheless recommend that children that can be cared for at home should be kept at home if possible. Care givers will receive continuous information through the communication platform Tempus.
Day care fees during the state of emergency
During the state of emergency, families can be exempt from day care fees if the child is cared for at home over a time period of at least 5 consecutive weekdays (example: Thursday-Wednesday). In that case,the fees will be reduced in accordance with the amount of days the child was absent from the day care, given that the family has notified the day care supervisor of the child’s absence in written form.
An absence note through Tempus not enough. If the child’s absence isn’t noted, the regular fee must be paid.
Families that use day care as usual pay the same fees as they normally do.
The deadline for notifying the day care centre of the child’s summer absence is prolonged until 15.5.2020. Please notify our staff as soon as possible in order to be able to use one or two months (may-august) free of charge.
Telephone hours have increased as of 19.03.2020: The social workers can be reached 9-10.30. In case of emergency child protections cases, the child protections services emergency number can be reached 8-16. Call the switch board operators (018-5310) and ask for child protection services. In case of emergency child protection cases outside of business hours, call 112.
Our clients should leave their applications and supporting documents in the post box in the stairwell (entrance through the courtyard), since the post box is emptied regularly every day.
Addiction services keeps regular phone hours.
Social assistance drop-in hours are cancelled until further notice. If possible, meetings should be held online or over the phone. If a client is showing symptoms of the common cold or the flu, he/she is urged to stay at home and reschedule the appointment/have it over the phone instead.

Starting 18.03.2020, online learning will be implemented. Pupils in year 1-3 are allowed to be in school, but it is heavily encouraged that children should be taught at home whenever possible in order to prevent the virus from spreading.
Care givers receive continuous information through the communication platform Wilma.
Starting 18.03.2020, no classes will be held. Swedish as a foreign language (SFI) will be offered online. Medis' students receive information directly from Medis.
Other activities and services
Other services are open unless otherwise is communicated. We kindly ask all residents of Mariehamn to be patient and take care of each other in the current situation. Please avoid face to face visits if your business can be solved through a telephone call or e-mail.

Advice and guidelines
National recommendations regarding the corona virus change frequently and thus the City of Mariehamn does not offer any recommendations regarding treatments or actions to stop the virus from spreading. Instead we refer to ÅHS and THL who update their information continuously.

The Government of Åland has a corona information line
For questions regarding the state of emergency and actions and precautions that are taken on Åland, call the government's information line, 018-25572 and 018-25573. The information line is open mon-fri 8-20. Questions regarding the virus should still be directed to ÅHS.

In Finland there is an information line that offers general information about the corona virus. The counselling service number is 0295 535 535. The line is open mon-fri 8-21 and 9-15 on weekends.
